Not everyone wants a steel ball loose in a bottle. Ball-free shakers solve three complaints at once: the rattle in a quiet office, the rust risk, and the ball that disappears the first time somebody rinses the bottle in a hurry.

A moulded agitator disc is fixed into the lid or the base and shears the powder as the liquid passes through it — quieter, permanent, and dishwasher-proof. A mesh insert sits between the two: more turbulence than a disc, still captive, still silent.

Neither mixes quite as aggressively as a wire ball with a thick powder, and we say so on the quote rather than after delivery. For most protein and electrolyte powders, that difference is academic; for gritty mass-gainer blends, it is not.

Will it leave lumps?
